Brooke Army Medical Center has overall charge of the multitude of medical operations on JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, including the San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC), the largest military hospital in the United States, which has the DODs only Level I trauma center and an emergency department that treats 80,000 people annually.
